Fundamentals of Rhythm

Rhythm/ˈriT͟Həm/

A rhythm is a strong, regular, repeated pattern of a movement or a sound. There are countless combinations of rhythms created by a variety of notes and patterns. Rhythms are influenced by geography and different cultures all over the world. And we find them reflected in language, dance, and a number of expressions within a culture.

As we begin learning about rhythms in our class, we will focus primarily on: whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes.  One thing to remember is that all notes stem from the whole note.

You can see a breakdown of the notes that we will be working with in the "Rhythm Tree.”
